Mike Bomar, past Executive Director from 2010 – 2013, reached out to share some fun memories from his time with SWCA. He sent some pictures and reminded us that SWCA has been a proud supporter and volunteer coordinator of Dozer Day from the early days of the event. Dozer Day is a community festival organized by the Nutter Foundation to expose local kids to the fun of the construction trades.
Mike recalled spending the day helping local kids get a chance to drive a big machine – whether an excavator or a bull dozer. Our members patiently handed over the joystick to the kiddos to allow them to dig a hole or push a pile of dirt. It is a landmark event in our community.
Other attractions at the event include the hardhats and the stickers that the kids gather, the big construction tires that they climb on and the chance to see some of the huge construction machines that tower over the kids and their parents. Popcorn, candy and fair food round out the day for all.
This picture above of Mike Bomar and board member Tracey Malone from captures the spirit of the event – lots of fun for kids and parents. Memories are made for all and money is raised for scholarships and other community programs.
Speaking of Dozer Day, after a 2020 pandemic-induced hiatus, Dozer Day 2021 will be back on May 15 & 16. Tickets will be needed (click here for more info) and the format will be a bit different to support the state guidelines, but the event promises to be lots of fun. We hope you participate.
Drop us a line if you would like to share some memories of SWCA and/or Dozer Day.
