Be Featured in an Upcoming Children's Book

We are now accepting illustrations for a county-wide art contest. Artwork will be featured in an upcoming children’s book. Deadline to submit artwork is April 13, 2018.
 
Any K-12 student in Clark County may submit an illustration. Artwork should reflect the themes listed in the contest guidelines, which can be found below:

Art Contest Rules & Guidelines

Eligibility

Any K-12 student in Clark County may submit artwork.

One entry per student.

Submission will be accepted by email (andrea@swca.org), mail-in or drop-off at SWCA’s office: 7017 NE Hwy 99, Suite 214 Vancouver, WA 98665.

  • Please include the following information in your submission: name, age, school, and grade level. 

Artwork must be submitted by April 13, 2018 for consideration.

Notification of finalists will be posted online at www.swca.org/art-contest no later than May 1, 2018.

 

Judging and Winners

A panel of judges will review all entries.

Selected artwork will focus on plot areas outlined below, reflect originality, and will have used bold lines and color.

Winners will be selected for publication in the book.

All entries submitted will be featured on the SWCA website for three months and may be used for future promotional purposes. 

 

Artwork Theme

Artwork should focus on one of the following plot categories:

  • Daydreaming of driving construction equipment
  • Worried parents
  • Spark of an idea
  • Dozer Day scenery / construction site / large equipment 
  • Child wearing orange safety vest
  • Congratulations / winning of a contest
  • Proud parents / happy family  
  • Young child driving construction equipment
  • Dream come true / happy child

 

Artwork Requirements

Artwork can be created on any paper and/or canvas no larger than 8.5 inches by 11 inches. This is the recommended size of received submissions.

Drawing and painting materials (pencil, charcoal, colored chalk, pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils, markers, watercolor, tempera, poster, acrylic, etc.). All material artwork will be scanned to convert into a digital file. Please ensure artwork is decipherable.

Original Digital artwork (use of graphic programs/software).


Copyright law

Any artwork that depicts copyrighted images will be rejected. For example, artwork depicting characters from television shows, movies, video games, or other books will not be accepted. All artwork must be original ideas tied to the plot of this book, and must be created entirely by the student.


 
The children’s book was inspired by the annual Clark County event, Dozer Day©, which will occur on May 19th and 20th. The book’s goal is to inspire future generations to choose construction as a viable career option.
