From Concept to Completion: R3 Retail Development

I recently met with Rick and Suzanne Ferguson, the owners of R3 Retail Development. While the company name includes the word “retail,” R3 Retail Development provides efficiency-oriented equipment and services for many types of commercial developments including supermarkets, food processing, small industrial, wineries, breweries and all types of commercial properties. Their services run the gamut of fixture planning, refrigeration design, building management design, and energy studies with a core focus on building controls, energy management, and commissioning.

Founded in 2003 as an Oregon company, the name “R3” comes from the original 3 founding partners – all named Rick. Today only one Rick remains with the company, Rick Ferguson. Suzanne joined Rick at the company in 2015 and they moved the business to Camas, Washington.

Since the move to Camas, the business and company has continued to thrive and grow, now with 6 employees. They converted a 114-year-old house on 6th Ave into their office. For the past several years the company’s primary focus has been working with multi-site retailers across the country. They are looking to build relationships with regional contractors and developers to open opportunities to do more work locally.

Rick and Suzanne explained their company’s core values as transparency, communication and innovation.  They apply these values in everyday operations finding savings for their clients through energy efficient solutions and acting as an extension to their clients’ teams.  They go the extra mile to make it easy to do business.

Fun Facts about R3 Retail Development:

  • R3 Retail Development embraces technology and is always looking for tools to better serve their customers.  An example of this is their new app, nR3g, which is a browser based collaborative app for managing multi-site retail projects.
  • R3 Retail Development just completed over 180 lighting and building control projects in California over the past 18 months.
  • R3 Retail Development did the store space planning, the lighting, refrigeration, kitchen and building controls design, all equipment procurement, rebate / incentive procurement and project management for the Chuck’s Produce project in Salmon Creek.

Rick and Suzanne, initially referred to SWCA by NW Accounting Professionals, joined the association to build connections with other SWCA members and owners/developers in the local market.  We are excited to see R3 Retail Development more involved in SWCA and the regional construction industry.  Be sure to attend our Holiday Party & Auction on December 7, 2018 and the Construction Executive Summit on February 7, 2019 for a chance to meet them.
