HB 1308: High School Graduation Pathway Options - With the support of SWCA, HB 1308 was voted out of the Senate on a 47 yea, 1 nay vote and is now on its way back to the House as of April 5th. The House will now have to concur with the Senate's amendments before this legislation can be delivered to the Governor to sign into law. The legislation was amended by the Senate Education Committee to clarify students utilizing an alternative pathway must show evidence they meet or exceed standards in math, arts, and English as part of a performance-based approach.
HB 1013: Regional pre-apprenticeships - SWCA has supported HB 1013 all session long. The legislation would create five regional pre-apprenticeship programs, three in Western WA and two in Eastern WA, for the purpose of identifying common best practices for pathways through community engagement with school districts.
The bill is referenced in the budgets and has broad support. It was unanimously voted out of the Senate Ways & Means committee on April 4th - one step closer to final passage. HB 1013 now has until April 12th to be voted out of the Senate chamber.
