Shoptalk for 11/09/2021 - All the Buzz from SWCA


We had an awesome Contractor Connection last week!  More than 40 members attended a presentation from the Port of Camas-Washougal and the Lincoln Property Company.  We enjoyed breakfast burritos and coffee and a tour of the new Rotschy Inc. facility!  Thank you to all who attended!  We can’t wait for the next one!

Here are a few punch list items for this week:

  • Invitations have been sent through the mail and the interwebs.  Are you planning to attend this year’s SWCA Holiday Party & Auction: Building Christmas Together sponsored by Banner Bank? The event will be held on Friday, December 3rd at ilani. Tickets are on sale now and sponsorships are still available! 
  • We are still looking for one of our amazing members to build us something awesome to raffle at the Holiday Party!  Let us know if you have a unique talent & want to enter our fun member raffle competition to showcase your work.
  • Mark your calendars for the Construction Executive Summit on Thursday, February 3rd.  This year we will be partnering with Cascadia Technical Academy for a Young Contractors Forum to connect youth with the multitude of opportunities that the construction industry offers.  There are still opportunities to get involved.  Registration open now!
  • Are you a contractor?  Do you love SWCA?  We are actively seeking contractors for our committees and board going into 2022.  We are an association for YOU & would love for your voice to be at the table.  Contact Sherrie for more information on ways to get involved!
  • Clark County is seeking applications to fill open seats on the following boards: Planning Commission, Library Board, Solid Waste Advisory, and Development and Engineering Advisory Board.  See the county website for who to send your resume and letter of interest to.
  • We have our annual SWAG SALE coming upStay tuned for more info on how you can get some great new gear while also supporting the SWCA Foundation.   
 
SWCA in the Community
  • The Washington State Building Code Council (WSBCC) has moved forward to taking public comment on two proposals which ban natural gas for space and water heating in new and retrofitted commercial buildings.  The meeting will be November 19th at 10:00am.  Your testimony is critical! 
  • Do you want to know what infrastructure projects might impact your business in Clark County?  Join us at the Clark County Utility Coordinating Commission meeting – the next meeting is on Wednesday December 1st, lunch at 11:30, meeting starts at noon at the Pied Piper Pizza on Fourth Plain.  Contact Ellen with questions and she can get you put onto the list.
  • We are looking for members to join our discussion regarding Permitting in Clark County.  SWCA is your advocate, so we need your input!  Please send your stories, share your solutions, and join our workgroup!  Email Sherrie to share or to learn more about how you can get involved!

  • The Port of Vancouver is hosting another FREE Vaccine clinic at the Administrative office at 3103 NW Lower River Road in Vancouver.  It is a Walk-In Clinic with no appointment, insurance or ID necessary.  Call 206.931.6438 if you need more information. 
  • Did you know that Wager Audio has rebranded themselves to Versa Events?  Check out their new website at www.versa.events.  We are so excited to be working with them on a few upcoming projects.  Take some time and check out their services!
  • Uptown Screen Printing is turning 1 on November 12, 2021!  To celebrate they will be hosting an open house on Friday November 12 from 3-6 – there will be treats, snacks, door prizes and a huge raffle prize (I think I heard TACOS and then the BIG raffle is for a fire pit!).  They are located at 713 W Main st #106, Battle Ground WA 98604 – stop by and join the party!
  • The Construction Center of Excellence will be hosting an Apprenticeship Preparation Summit on November 10, 2021.  If you are interested in learning about these programs or want to learn more about how to organize apprenticeships – please attend this FREE virtual event.   • Kinesis is hosting their annual Catalyst Summit on November 12th.  This virtual summit will be focused on bringing business leaders together to take a different approach to the workforce conversation.  This Summit is a great fit for any business leader who is struggling with recruitment and retention.
