Can you believe it is already November?  Time flies when you are having fun – last week was another awesome Thirsty Thursday sponsored by Phoenix Technology, Inc and this Wednesday we have a Contractor Connection sponsored by the Port of Camas-Washougal and Lincoln Property Company.  Join the fun!  Oh, and don’t forget to VOTE!  Ballots are due tomorrow by 8:00pm.
Here are a few punch list items for this week:

  • This year’s SWCA Holiday Party & Auction: Building Christmas Together sponsored by Banner Bank will be on Friday, December 3rd at ilani. Tickets are on sale now! 
  • November 3 from 7-9 am we will have our first Contractor Connection at the Rotschy Inc. headquarters in Vancouver.  We will provide a light breakfast and coffee and you will get an opportunity to learn about upcoming projects at the Port of Camas- Washougal and the Lincoln Property Group project at Terminal 1.  You will not want to miss out on this opportunity to learn about upcoming work – register here so we can plan for enough breakfast!
  • Mark your calendars for the Construction Executive Summit on Thursday, February 3rd.  This year we will be partnering with Cascadia Technical Academy for a Young Contractors Forum to connect youth with the multitude of opportunities that the construction industry offers.  There are still opportunities to get involved.  Registration open now!
  • Did you catch our latest Member Spotlight?  We interviewed Brent Rotschy of Rotschy, Inc. and learned a bunch about their company.  Check it out here.  Drop us a line if you would like us to put a spotlight on your company!
  • Are you a contractor?  Do you love SWCA?  We are actively seeking contractors for our committees and board going into 2022.  We are an association for YOU & would love for your voice to be at the table.  Contact Sherrie for more information on ways to get involved!
  • Clark County is seeking applications to fill open seats on the following boards: Planning Commission, Library Board, Solid Waste Advisory, and Development and Engineering Advisory Board.  See the county website for who to send your resume and letter of interest to. 
 
SWCA in the Community
  • The Washington State Building Code Council (WSBCC) has moved forward to taking public comment on two proposals which ban natural gas for space and water heating in new and retrofitted commercial buildings.  The meeting will be November 19th at 10:00am.  Your testimony is critical! 
  • Do you want to know what infrastructure projects might impact your business in Clark County?  Join us at the Clark County Utility Coordinating Commission meeting – the next meeting is on Wednesday November 3rd, lunch at 11:30, meeting starts at noon at the Pied Piper Pizza on Fourth Plain.  Contact Ellen with questions and she can get you put onto the list.
  • We are looking for members to join our discussion regarding Permitting in Clark County.  SWCA is your advocate, so we need your input!  Please send your stories, share your solutions, and join our workgroup!  Email Sherrie to share or to learn more about how you can get involved!

  • The Construction Center of Excellence will be hosting an Apprenticeship Preparation Summit on November 10, 2021.  If you are interested in learning about these programs or want to learn more about how to organize apprenticeships – please attend this FREE virtual event.   • Member Schwabe, Williamson, & Wyatt is hosting a webinar: COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Compliance for Federal Contractors on Wednesday, November 3rd. Register here.
  • Association of WA Business (AWB) will also be hosting a webinar this Wednesday, November 3rd regarding the vaccine mandate.  The webinar is from 10am-11am. You may register here.

  • Kinesis is hosting their annual Catalyst Summit on November 12th.  This virtual summit will be focused on bringing business leaders together to take a different approach to the workforce conversation.  This Summit is a great fit for any business leader who is struggling with recruitment and retention.
