What an exciting start to the week! Our Monday morning started out with a literal BOOM just outside our office windows. A transformer blew out the power! So, we took the time to have coffee together & brainstorm ways to make SWCA even better! Happy Birthday Casey Collins!
Here are some of the items we are working on!
- ATTENTION CONTRACTORS: Public comments are still being heard & your voice is needed! The WA State Building Code Council has released the CR-102 for public comment on changes to the state energy code which would ban the use of natural gas in new & retrofit commercial buildings. The new code requires “Energy from renewable energy resources harvested at the building site” Renewable Energy Resources is defined as “Energy derived from solar radiation, wind, waves, tides, biogas, biomass or extracted from hot fluid or steam heated within the earth.” Don’t wait to submit your comments: WSBCC meets this month & then public testimony will close!
- Thirsty Thursday sponsored by Diversified Benefits Management is happening soon! Our theme this month is Bring Your Buddy! Join us on March 3, 2022 at the Main Event Downtown Vancouver. Choose your Buddy (aka a non-member) for a chance to win a special prize and register here.
- The Construction Executive Summit is happening Thursday March 24. Registration is open & sponsorships are available. We are planning for an in-person event – this year’s Summit will include all of the great content as well as a Supplier Expo and a Young Contractor Forum.
- Would you like to sponsor a student a the Young Contractors Forum? Add the $50 Student Ticket when you register for the Summit. We are really excited to be holding this event. The Summit is a great opportunity for you to connect with the local leaders in the construction industry! Register today!
- SWCA would like to improve its Education Offerings – from our website to in-person classes, how can SWCA help you build your business – contact Ellen and let her know.
SWCA in the Community
- Did you know the SWCA is the Volunteer Chair for Dozer Day? We need your help – we need volunteers and equipment operators for the event. Dozer Day is coming on May 14 & 15 this year at the Clark County Fairgrounds. This is the most amazing day for our young construction professionals to get in the driver’s seat of the big equipment. Check out the new website where you can volunteer or email Ellen and she can help you out.
- The Clark County Utility Coordinating Commission is sponsoring a Contractor Lunch at the DoubleTree Hotel in Vancouver on March 2 at 11:30. We would love for you to join us to get an introduction to the 811 program and new features you can take advantage of. Contact Ellen with questions and she can get you put onto the list.
- Battle Ground Public Schools is hosting an Industry Fair on Thursday February 17 from 5-7pm at Battle Ground High School. This event will showcase careers and industries that are available to students in our community. SWCA will be there with a table and we would love to be there with you. Want to be a part of the action and get to know some of these students? Register to host a FREE table here . If you have questions please contact Kevin Doyle - Career Guidance Specialist Battle Ground High School 360.885.6598 doyle.kevin@battlegroundps.org.
Notable WA State Legislation from our friends at AWB:
- Senate Bill 5957, a bipartisan bill sponsored by Sen. Mark Mullet, D-Issaquah, and co-sponsored by Sen. Lynda Wilson, R-Vancouver, was introduced last week has been referred to the Senate Ways & Means Committee. The bill would reduce the B&O tax on manufacturing, restoring the kind of key financial support for our state’s manufacturers that Gov. Inslee vetoed from the bipartisan state budget in 2017.
