Star Rentals is a “full rental house” providing rental equipment to all phases of construction. Star Rentals was first established in 1900 as Star Machinery. They have operated in Portland since 1959 and opened an office in Vancouver in 1985. They have 18 store locations in Oregon and Washington. They rent construction equipment from big to small, from scissor lifts to portable generators. Their office and lot location is a construction heaven in the Portland Eastside Industrial area off MLK.
We sat down with Ryan Adamo, the Oregon Region Manager to discuss his business and their relationship with SWCA.
What do your customers like about your Star Rentals?
“Our people drive everything,” Ryan said. He went on to explain that equipment rental is a relationship business. Most of their employees are long-term and the company focuses on building trust with all their clients. Territory reps are encouraged to join and participate with local organizations to develop their ties into the community.
Star Rentals has been with SWCA since the early 2000 when they were beginning to establish their foothold in the Southwest Washington market. They are a big supporter of SWCA- attending our holiday parties and networking events and sponsoring a hole at the SWCA Classic Cup for the last few years.
How did you find out about SWCA?
The person before Ryan actually was responsible for joining SWCA. “He wanted to become a part of the ’biggest and baddest industry group’ in the area!”, Ryan said.
Why did you join SWCA?
“Giving back to the community is important to us. We focus on hiring good people and getting the right fit.” Ryan described their culture as “employee based” – they need to have good people for their business to thrive. He mentioned that they currently have open positions and that they seek people who will be with them for the long haul.
If SWCA could do one thing for you, what would it be?
“We love Member Spotlights,” Ryan said. “We have been family owned since 1891 – most of our investment goes into equipment. We would love for you to highlight our business.”
What is your favorite thing about SWCA?
“The member group itself – the people – make Star Rentals and getting to know the members at SWCA is important,” Ryan said. He has worked on the Mentor Protégé Program with the Port of Portland and has gotten to see a few young businesses grow and thrive. He is a true construction supporter – and loves his clients in the construction industry – they are the “salt of the earth”!
Is there anything else you would like people to know about SWCA?
“This group has been a great outlet for my local reps (Kyle Buttolph and Kevin Blow) to get to know the local construction industry. Our membership is ’top notch’!”
We think so too! Thank you, Ryan, for taking the time to speak to us!
