Spotlight on Biggs' Insurance

Spotlight on Biggs' Insurance

I caught up with Matt Anderson, commercial insurance agent, from Biggs Insurance Services this week.  Matt and I had a great conversation, talking about insurance services and the upcoming implementation of the Washington State Long Term Care Act.  Matt is a wealth of knowledge about insurance and the services that Biggs can offer to your business.
Biggs Insurance Services is in Matt’s blood.  His dad also was a long-term partner with Biggs.  In fact, just perusing the Biggs team, you will see many familiar names from the local community.
Here are some of the highlights of our conversation.

What is your company name?
Biggs Insurance Services is a locally owned and operated insurance agency.  While they were recently acquired by Alliant, they will continue to provide the same local focus of their business that has been their hallmark for the last 86 years. The Alliant relationship helps them to be offer more competitive rates to their local customers. Biggs has three lines of business:  personal, commercial and life/health insurance.
One exciting facet of Biggs’ business is their Construction Insurance and Risk Management Program.  Through this program, Biggs can help new and operating construction companies and contractors to establish and insure their company.  They can guide you through the process of acquiring your business licenses and provide you with the information that you will need to ensure your business is properly protected. These are great services that can be leveraged while you are starting up your operations

How long have Biggs been in SW Washington?
Biggs has been operating in SW Washington at the same location at 916 Main Street in Vancouver since 1935.  It was originally formed as the Whitfield company.  In 1953 Don Biggs joined the Whitfield Company and eventually he acquired the business and created Don Biggs & Associates. Biggs is in the historic Elks Lodge building in downtown Vancouver. The building is a cornerstone in downtown Vancouver.

What do your customers like about Biggs?
Biggs always offers the personal touch to their customers.  They are a big supporter of our local community.  Their employees live in the community, and they support the local community organizations and events.  Although they are one of the largest independent agencies, they are focused on all customers – no customer is too big or too small.

How long have you been a member of SWCA?
Biggs has been a part of SWCA for at least the past 10 or 15 years.  Andy Cornett was the primary rep back then.  Matt has been an active rep since at least 2017 when he served on the Membership Committee.  They are always looking for ways that they can provide services and support to our members.

Why did you join SWCA?
Biggs joined SWCA to support the local construction industry.  They have expertise that can help our members to be successful.  SWCA is a great way for them to continue to deepen their support for the local community.  Matt loves that SWCA is always welcoming and open to new ideas - especially if these ideas can be a benefit to our members and their customers – often the same set of folks.

If SWCA could do one thing for you, what would it be?
Matt loves the in-person events and is looking forward to attending more of them.  Biggs has participated in past events like the Construction Executive Summit and would love to be able to provide their expertise in any way possible. You may see them on the agenda for future events.

What is your favorite thing about SWCA?
Matt loved the opportunities for involvement that SWCA provides – whether it is sporting, educational or social – SWCA has a plethora of events. It is easy to get involved with SWCA and our doors are always open.

Is there anything else you would like people to know about SWCA or Biggs?
Our organizations are a logical fit – we are both local organizations committed to supporting our local industries.  Biggs is here to stay and help.  They want to help the big and small companies to stay safe and well insured and in hopes that they never have to use their insurance policies.  Here is to a long and safe relationship!
