Fisher Construction
I got a chance to meet with Kevin Watkins and Joel Knechtel of Fisher Construction Group and learn about what their company does and what makes it special.  Following are some bits and bobs from our conversation.

Kevin and JoelWhat is your company name and what does it do for its business?
Fisher Construction Group is a full-service design|build company specializing in food manufacturing and cold storage facilities.  In addition to these service lines, they also handle more traditional industrial and commercial projects. Fisher Construction Group constructed the first high rise freezer project in the US in Tacoma, Washington, which won a Build by the Best Award. They are a national leader designing and building very complex, integrated food manufacturing facilities – think pallets of frozen French fries, vats of salad dressings or boxes of bacon.  Just speaking with them made me hungry for lunch.

How long have you been in SW Washington?
Fisher Construction Group is headquartered in Burlington, Washington but has been in this area since they purchased IsoQuip in 2018 – they created the Fisher Thermal Division and naturally developed the construction services in Vancouver along with their MEP Division. More recently, they moved into a beautiful new building within the Port of Vancouver.

What do your customers like about your company? (Why do they do business with you?)
Customers love the unique approach that Fisher takes to their projects.  Fisher is innovative in their use of technology – and they are a leader in the food processing construction space. They build long lasting relationships with their customers who return time and again with their next big project.

Fisher has done projects all around the United States – including in Washington, Oregon, California, Louisiana, Virginia, Indiana and even into Canada. They bring in some expertise but also work with local subcontractors where it is possible to benefit the local economy.

How long have you been a member of SWCA?  Why did you join our membership?
Fisher joined SWCA in 2021 – they learned about our association from Chrissy Lyons (our past president) at the Port of Vancouver. Fisher joined the SWCA to be better involved in the local community and to network with and support the local industry.

What is your favorite thing about SWCA?

Kevin is excited to get to know the people in SWCA. Fisher loves to be a part of the communities where they have offices. They have done local projects as well, like the expansion of Firestone Pacific Foods on Lower River Road.
Kevin joined our Internship Essentials Webinar in January. He provided a lot of background on having an interns in their offices.  Fisher actively seeks out college students to join their company for the summers.  Students can work on projects and get real-life experience which can also lead to a future job.
